“Describe a campaign decision you changed because of evidence.”

For a community fundraiser, I created two messages: one about the cause and one about the specific event activities. We used separate links so we could see which message led to registrations. The activity message produced more clicks, but the cause message produced more completed registrations in our small sample. I checked that the links and registration page worked before changing the schedule. We used more of the cause message and kept the other as a limited follow-up test. Because the audiences were not randomly assigned, I called the result directional. The useful change was that our discussion moved from which copy we liked to which action we were trying to cause.
